faith expressing itself through love
Writings
We believe strongly that living overseas is as much about sharing what we see and learn with people back in North America as it is serving here in Africa. To that end, as often as possible, we publish and share challenging, entertaining, paradigm-shifting writing—and a few pieces just for adventurous fun.

Chrissy wrote an essay included in this book:
The Mommy Diaries: Finding Yourself in the Daily Adventure
In the course of your adventure in mothering, you may not have had time to record all the things you have been learning about yourself. The Mommy Diaries: Finding Yourself in the Daily Adventure will provide reflection, perspective and inspiration to you through the lives of many different women. As you read accounts of how moms just like you have made their way through the adventure of mothering, you will gain insight into your own adventure.
MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) provided copies to all 110,000 of their members in 2008-09, or you can order one through the MOPShop, Christian Books, Amazon and at select local retailers.
A sampling of magazine articles by each of us...
Neue Quarterly
This new thoughtful mature publication by the people of Relevant is one of our new favorites to write for (and read.)
Right in the Thick of It: A new perspective on crime" (p. 161) ponders the choice to live in places where crime is a constant threat. (Adam and Christine)
Vows: Promises still matter, even in our mobile, commitment-phobic culture (p. 135).
“Retreat!”(p. 164) highlights the practice of spiritual retreats—the importance, the challenges, and tips. (Adam and Christine)
Relevant Magazine:
Sep/Oct. 2009: "The not going back to school guide." Officially Relevant says both of us wrote this, but most it came out of Adam's unique brain. The list of stuff to do if you're bored is especially amusing.
Nov/Dec. 2008: "St. Nickel and Dimed," click page 44 to read about financial wisdom from wierd places. (Adam and Christine)
November 2007: “When God Ruins Everything,” the story of finding out we were 4 ½ months pregnant. (Christine and Adam)
March/Apr 2008: “Letters from Death Row,” by both of us, a peek into a seven-year friendship with our friend William, who happened to be on death row. (Christine and Adam)
Country Magazine:
Dec. 2008. A piece tying together the many countrysides we’ve known. (Christine)
Camera&Image (South Africa):
April/May 2008: “Professional Point and Shoot: Canon’s G9,” investigating a very capable little camera. (Adam)
Overland Journal:
"Falling in love with a motorcylcle." How I stopped hating (and actually started loving) my husband's favorite hobby. (Christine)
Living and Loving (South Africa)
“Raising Cross-Cultural Children.” What a cool issue to get to write about for such a diverse country. (Christine)
MomSense
November 2007: “Creating a home away from home.” (Christine)
Motorcycle Sport & Leisure (U.K.):
A three-part series on riding a motorcycle 3,600 miles through eight countries in eight days in southern Africa. (Adam)
Craving Milk: Nourishment for the New Mother’s Soul:
A self-published book of reflections for new moms that Chrissy wrote back when Phoebe was a newborn. It makes a great baby shower gift or something to curl up with while you’re rocking, feeding, calming, entertaining, pulling your hair out over, and otherwise loving a new baby. Copies available on request, or click here for a sample first chapter.
And we should also mention…
Adam’s words and images have appeared in (or are slated for publication in) Adventure Motorcycle, Backroads, Camera&Image, Christian Living Today, The Citizen, Dirt&Quad, The Dispatch, Dreams, Farmer’s Weekly, Joy, Motorcycle Sport & Leisure, Neue Quarterly, The Oshkosh Northwestern, Overland Journal, Relevant, Road Bike, The Star (South Africa), The Sunday Times (South Africa), The Sunday Tribune, TopBike, Trail Bike Adventure, The Witness, and others, plus several photo credits in Chrissy’s articles.
